The latest buzz in the medical community is the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to help interpret radiology exams, including mammograms. While several AI programs are commercially available, these programs are not standardized, validated or endorsed by the American College of Radiology as a replacement for the expertise of a breast imaging radiologist—the doctor reading your mammogram.
Artificial intelligence is an exciting tool that can enhance clinical care, but it is only one part of the process. The most important factor in interpreting your mammogram is the expertise of the physician reading it. At EWBC, we believe the best care comes from combining experienced breast imaging specialists with thoughtfully selected technology to provide the most comprehensive evaluation of your breast health.
What makes EWBC unique is that every screening mammogram is interpreted by two fellowship-trained (meaning additional training in breast cancer detection) breast imaging radiologists. Our radiologists devote their practice exclusively to breast imaging and interpret thousands of mammograms each year. Their experience, combined with advanced technology, helps to provide the most accurate and thorough evaluation possible.
Over the last 50 years, breast cancer detection has advanced significantly. EWBC has been at the forefront of these advancements, continually evaluating new technologies that have the potential to improve patient care.
A routine mammogram appointment at Elizabeth Wende Breast Care may seem simple, but behind the scenes, state-of-the-art technology and experienced breast imaging specialists are working together to provide the highest quality patient care.
At EWBC, we have thoughtfully incorporated AI-supported technology into our practice in ways that enhance patient care, including determining breast density, performing cancer risk assessment, and lesion identification with computer-aided detection. These tools have been carefully evaluated before being integrated into our practice and are used to complement – not replace- the expertise of our breast imaging specialists. We do not charge our patients for any AI assisted technology we utilize in our practice.
