Our History

The Elizabeth Wende Breast Care Clinic, founded by Wende Logan-Young, M.D. in 1976, is the nation's first freestanding mammography and breast imaging center, devoted to breast disease detection. It is ranked as one of the nation's leading breast care facilities and is considered a "Center of Excellence".

The Elizabeth Wende Breast Care Clinic's founding and continuing philosophy is that each patient is treated as uniquely as her situation deems. Every patient receives the full results of her exams before she leaves the clinic. Testing, such as ultrasound, additional views and core biopsies, are performed during the same appointment, rather than have the patient return at a later date. This helps to reduce a woman's anxiety over waiting for additional appointments, tests and results.

The clinic is named in memory of Dr. Logan-Young's mother, Elizabeth Mae Buffington Wende Westinghouse, and is dedicated to her spirit, and to the spirit of all mothers who support, inspire and believe in their daughters.

The Elizabeth Wende Breast Care Clinic is an ACR Accredited and FDA Certified facility. EWBC is a founding and active member of the Monroe County Women's Health Partnership, a local organization that provides funding for women's health care and health issues.
